Avonside exhibiting at The CIH Conference

During the final week of June, we exhibited at the Chartered Institute of Housing Conference 2018. As first-time exhibitors we were pleased to represent the roofing trade at the must-attend event in the sector. Roofing experts on hand, we showcased the latest in innovation and design to landlords, councillors and housing association representatives across the three-day show.

The CIH is Europe’s largest annual conference for housing, held with 97% of the largest housing associations in attendance, making it a great way to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in housing. With over 200 speakers, 350 of the sector's biggest suppliers and over 11,000 visitors, CIH 2018 proved to be a successful conference for us to network and meet clients and suppliers.

We were at stand C63, alongside Prime Hybrid Energy who specialise in hardware manufacturing and software design to create energy efficiency in an evolving market. We’re working in partnership with Prime Hybrid Energy to deliver innovation and energy saving solutions into the housing sector to reduce energy bills and help towards solving fuel poverty. The Prime Hybrid inverter and battery storage solution is able to harness energy generated from the sun and is smartly managed to ensure that the property is importing as little from the grid as possible. Properties with this technology installed are currently running between 83-94% self-sufficient massively reducing energy costs.

With the government’s target for building new homes remaining at 300,000 per year, it was a very insightful exhibition to attend to see how this can be possible, as well as the challenges that we, as an industry, will face to reach this target.

“Events like CIH provide us with a platform to showcase how our various divisions including residential, renewables and energy can provide energy-saving and sustainable roofing solutions for social housing. We are committed to working with local authority and councils nationwide, to offer solutions to achieve and contribute towards the development of social housing schemes in the future. CIH was an extremely well organised and worthwhile event at bringing issues within social housing to the forefront and provided a great opportunity to network with existing and new clients.” - Philip Bull MIoR, Group Business Development Director, Avonside Group Services.

CIH Highlights:

Social housing was a key topic amongst the event as it’s a great example of the sectoral impact in the United Kingdom, involving both economic and social benefits.

Gordon More, Chief Investment Officer of Homes England

Gordon More, Chief Investment Officer of Homes England, spoke about how Homes England will support acceleration of housing output including through modern methods of construction.

James Brokenshire, MP for Old Bexely, announced a new multi-billion-pound fund to boost Social Housing across England.

Mark Farmer, CIH

Mark Farmer, Founding Director and Chief Executive of Chartered Institute of Housing stated that the narrative of what our industry needs should change, which comes down to using different methods of delivery through the use of digital and technology. He went on to say that the housing sector could learn from the automotive sector with the need for innovations and modern methods of construction play a big part of that.

Melanie Rees, CIH

Melanie Rees, head of policy at the Chartered Institute of Housing said: “It’s time to reclaim the role of social housing as a pillar of the society we want to be, along with free healthcare and education.”

It was great to be able to showcase ourselves as a company with many different areas of expertise as well as show how we aim to be Britain’s best building envelope contractor, by offering specialist solutions, service and knowledge to those in attendance.
